Everyone can achieve and succeed in their individual way.

The ASD Positive Learning Approach

A Positive Approach to Supporting Students with ASD

Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often need a little extra help navigating mainstream education. The Wheel of Success, developed by Ruth Cornell, supports and builds on the individual’s strengths to understand the specific challenges the student faces, and how best to overcome them. An Inclusive Team Approach provides Team Leaders (who may be parents, teachers or an ASD Education Specialist like Ruth) with the tools to bring everyone together who is involved with the student’s learning – including parents, school principals, teachers, aides, speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists etc. By working as a team and sharing communications, systems, goals and results, the team can pool their experience and expertise for the benefit of each other, and above all, the student.

Ruth Cornell works within this positive, child-centred framework whether she is running workshops and Information Sessions, training teachers and parents to be Team Leaders or working one-on-one with individual students.

By valuing the individual strengths of each student, Ruth offers children and teens with ASD a brighter future.

Educating - ASD Positive Learning Model

Educating

Educating parents, schools and other professionals is vital to helping young people with ASD achieve. Ruth ensures everyone is on the same page, understanding the specific strengths and challenges of the individual.

Understanding

Understanding is more than just knowing. By pulling together strategies, methodologies and shared goals to help meet the aspirations of the student, the Team can formulate a plan based on their unique situation.

Achieving - ASD Positive Learning Model

Achieving

Achieving on a regular basis helps motivate students to learn. Ensuring goals are realistic and outcomes are measured accurately ensures that achievement can be recognised and nurtured on an ongoing basis.

Succeeding - ASD Positive Learning Model

Succeeding

Once a student has achieved success they are more likely to keep trying. Smaller goals become the foundation for achieving bigger goals and over time, an individual will develop the skills to reach their potential.
